The Name Game

You might be wondering why this blog is called Through Hell, when it’s all about weight loss.

Well, in this humble scribe’s opinion, being overweight is hell.

Living in a society that shoves unattainable perfection down your throat at every opportunity is hell. Existing in a body that is crumbling under the weight of your own gluttony and apathy is hell. Being bullied, judged, and having your value downplayed by others because of your size is hell.

It’s a hell of our own making. I got myself into this position, but that doesn’t mean I have to stay here. Staying still is a choice.

There are a couple of variations of a quote that resonates with me. The attributions to who actually said this quote are also varied and numerous, so I’m going to leave it unattributed. Regardless of who said it, the quote inspired the name of this blog.

If you’re going through hell, don’t stop, or, If you’re going through hell, keep going.

I personally like the second version more, because it implies movement. Even if you’re going through hell, making slow, torturous progress, just keep moving forward.

If you’re in the same position as me, you probably stopped or slowed down a long time ago. You might have gotten comfortable. But now you know It’s time to get moving again.

This purpose of this blog is to document my journey through the hell of losing a shitload of weight, and to share that experience with you. I hope that my learnings and progress can help or inspire others to start moving through their own personal hells, and seek betterment in their lives.

I might be in hell right now, but I’m only passing through.
